Verdict for each set on the set list
- six jacks — even, everyone has a partner
- five jacks — odd, one is left alone
- four red cars — even, everyone has a partner
- five blue cars — odd, one is left alone
- four apples — even, everyone has a partner
- three oranges — odd, one is left alone
- eight triangles — even, everyone has a partner
- five squares — odd, one is left alone
- three purple balls — odd, one is left alone
- six happy-face balls — even, everyone has a partner
Expected chart
Even column: 6, 4, 4, 8, 6. Odd column: 5, 5, 3, 5, 3.
A student who enters each number once rather than once per set is also correct: even 4, 6, 8 and odd 3, 5.
Read for
A close response gives the verdict with its reason, in the form five is odd, one is left alone. A loose response gives the label by itself, or reasons from the colour or the kind of object rather than from the leftover.
Where the chart and the counters disagree, the pair test settles it: rebuild the set and count the leftover.
