- Paper and pencil
- Feature card Text to mark
- Any verified feature page - bill, eggs, milk, spur, fur, cheek pouches, or grinding pads
Lesson sequence
1 Choose the fact - 4 min Review the feature menu and choose one feature. Mark the page and state exactly what the book says about it. 2 Build and present - 5 min Write two sentences: what the feature is, and what it does. Rehearse once with a partner, then present without adding information the book does not give.
Teacher key
A successful presentation names one real feature and gives an accurate function or fact from the book. Accept any supported feature; reject invented claims or claims that stretch beyond the source.
Support & extension
- Support:
- Provide a feature with its page already marked and use the frames: “The platypus has ___.” “It uses it to ___.” Extension: After presenting, answer one follow-up by saying either the supported fact or “The book doesn't say.”
Assessment
