- Passage 7 - flying or hopping
- Focus:
- One shape, and a room that will not agree
- Teacher direction:
- Show the class the picture on the first page and nothing else. Ask what animal they can see, and take every answer. Do not settle it.

- I read the first page and notice that nobody is named. One voice says what it can see, and another says that is not what it is at all. The book never tells us who either of them is, so the only thing to go on is what each of them points at.

- Teacher direction:
- Using Passages 3 and 7, write what each voice says about the same part of the picture.
- Expected answer:
- One voice points at the front of the animal and calls it a bill; the other says those are ears, and calls the first voice silly for asking. Then one says the animal is flying, and the other repeats the word back as a question before saying it is hopping. Both are looking at one picture that does not change, and every page they name a different part of it.
