Lesson sequence
1 Set the idea - 2 min Reread the cited scenes and ask what idea is suggested by using the same causal pattern for the acorn, tree, bird, and seed. 2 Attach the evidence - 5 min Have students choose at least two named details from different points in the chain and explain how the repeated wording connects them. 3 State the central idea - 3 min Students state one cautious central idea about nature's connected parts and include the two supporting details.
Teacher key
A supported central idea is that the natural things are presented as connected parts of one progression. Accept other cautious wording when it is supported by at least two accurate details.
