- Focus:
- A puddle that is up a tree
- Teacher direction:
- Ask the class what a mud puddle is and where you would find one. Take the ordinary answers. Then read the opening and the page after it and let them notice that this one is somewhere no puddle belongs.
- Prepared text:

- I read the opening page and then the page where she gets dressed again, one straight after the other, and I point out that they are nearly the same page. Getting dressed happens again. Sitting outside happens again. Something jumping on her happens again. This book is one story told over and over.

- Using Passages 1, 2 and 13, write down what happens each time Jule Ann goes outside.
- Expected answer:
- Every time, the same four things happen in the same order. Jule Ann puts on clean new clothes and buttons them up. She goes outside and sits down. A mud puddle is hiding somewhere above her, and it jumps on her head, and she is muddy all over. Then her mother drops her in a tub of water and washes her out, part by part. The book does not change the order and it barely changes the words - what changes is where the puddle is hiding, and how much of Jule Ann has to be washed.
