Lesson sequence

- Passage 11 - out from behind the dog house
- Focus:
- Two pages that are nearly the same page
- Teacher direction:
- Read the two getting-dressed pages back to back and ask the class what is different about them. The honest answer is almost nothing, and that is the point.
- Prepared text:

- I put the two getting-dressed pages side by side and read them. The shirt is the same, buttoned the same way, and so are the pants. Then I read the last line of each one and they part company: the first time she walks straight out, and the second time she looks out of the door first. She has learnt something. The words she is described with have not changed at all, but what she does with them has.

- Up, up, and then down at the ground
- Teacher direction:
- Using Passages 2, 6 and 11, write down where the mud puddle is hiding each time.
- Expected answer:
- The first time it is hiding up in the apple tree. The second time it is up on top of the house, and Jule Ann is in the sand box right next to it. The third time it is not up anywhere at all - it comes out from behind the dog house and runs across the grass at her. So the puddle keeps moving to somewhere she has not thought of. Twice it is above her, which is why looking out of the back door does not save her: she is checking the ground, and it is on the roof.
