- Passage 4 - an empty stage with a cello and a music stand on it
- Passage 6 - Mrs Sasquatch's head and open mouth filling the page
Lesson sequence
1 Before reading - 3 min
- Passage 8 - a bass drum and rows of seated musicians
- Focus:
- The reputation the book opens with
- Teacher direction:
- Ask what somebody would have to do to be called silly.
- Prepared text:
- Passage 1, Passage 3, Passage 4, Passage 6, Passage 8 2 Read it through - 9 min

- An opinion stated as if it were a fact
- Teacher model:
- Read the whole book, stopping after the opening page to ask whose opinion it is. .

- List the stages of the day in order, ending with how Pecorino gets out of the tuba.
