- A brief partner response with a choice and one supporting detail.

- Book or read-along; drawing or response materials.

- Students may respond orally, by pointing or selecting, with a drawing

Focus question
Which example would you choose to explain kindness, and what detail supports your choice?
- Teacher model:
- I choose care for the earth because the speaker takes only what is needed.
- Expected answer:
- A valid response chooses one book example and explains what the speaker does.
Where to look in the book
- Revisit three clear book examples: care for the Elders, care for the earth, and care for self.
- Students must choose an example actually shown in the book.
