- Prepared passages: Passage 2, Passage 9, Passage 10, Passage 12
- Passage 2 - a child's crayon drawing framed on a yellow wall, with a plaque under it
- Passage 9 - the same gondolier at the door with the two dogs
- Passage 10 - tiers of opera boxes with figures leaning out of them

- Passage 12 - a scrapbook spread of pasted tickets, photographs and a drawn lion, with
handwritten captions and arrows
- Focus:
- The form the book is imitating
- Teacher direction:
- Ask what people keep in a scrapbook.

- A holiday recorded by the person on it

- Read the whole scrapbook without stopping.

- List the kinds of thing the scrapbook holds, ending with the last spread.
- Expected answer:
- Italian words with their meanings, a count of the days left, and finally the pasted tickets and postcards, each labelled in her handwriting.
